Thirteen is not an unlucky number for Squiz
Following the Queensland Premier’s 2009 announcement to streamline Queensland Government services into thirteen departments, leading Australian web solutions provider Squiz is partnering with the Queensland Department of Justice and Attorney General (JAG) to migrate web content from multiple departments across numerous platforms and systems, into a singular Internet and Intranet. In less than 6 months some 15,000 pages of content from two sites were restructured for better accessibility and usability, revised or rewritten as required and uploaded to the new system.
The solution delivered by Squiz utilises their supported open source MySource Matrix content management system (CMS); the CMS solution most widely used by Government agencies across Australia. Utilising in-house developed tools to automatically migrate content from an outgoing competitor system and manually generated Dreamweaver websites into MySource Matrix, this new approach is delivering significant speed and process efficiency increases over current best practice. The end result....a significant reduction of resource costs to JAG.
The existing system was replaced and website redeveloped - within a three month timeline and within budget – notwithstanding some complexities posed by a highly secure virtualised environment that underpins the system. Training JAG staff early on in the process played a key role, enabling JAG personnel to configure core functionality and migrate content in parallel with Squiz Implementation effort. JAG is now empowered to self manage their sites going forward.
The amalgamation of multiple platforms and systems when combined with improved web management and maintenance processes now ensures that timely and accurate JAG content can be published to public Internet, secure Intranet or both to enhance the services provided to Queensland constituents. Those services embrace high concern areas including; security, privacy, transparency and accountability of the legal process, as well as general law and order issues.
Squiz is firmly onboard to help deliver Queensland’s Whole of Government strategy and is currently discussing web strategy and solutions with a number of other Queensland organisations. One key driver fuelling these discussions is the states strong interest in harnessing latest social networking technologies to improve customer service via the web.
Squiz has a demonstrated chronology of success characterised by establishing and resourcing local offices in order to promote the Squiz best practice service and support model. The efficacy of the JAG solution bodes well for the rapidly growing Squiz Brisbane office; a reflection of Squiz’s ongoing commitment to expansion into regional and global operations.
