New ACYS website is Australias first comprehensive youth sector national resource

Leading Australian web solutions provider Squiz recently developed a new website for the Hobart-based Australian Clearinghouse for Youth Studies (ACYS). The new website incorporates daily news, listings of announcements, a Hot Topic focus, Twitter feed and improved access for subscribers and anyone wanting to list events on the ACYS events calendar.

As a clearinghouse, ACYS’s role is to collect and communicate information to policymakers, service providers, academics, students and parents. Funded by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), the clearinghouse is a non-for-profit organisation based at the University of Tasmania’s Sandy Bay campus.

ACYS director Professor Rob White said “The new website cuts down research time and provides comprehensive information to youth sector organisations and workers. This is an important step for the youth sector in Australia. Organisations working with limited resources now have access to a central hub of information that is an invaluable resource and free and easy to use.”

The Minister for Community Development, Nick McKim, commented “This website will be a crucial go-to resource for people working in the youth sector, studying youth-related issues, and for providing advice on youth policy issues.”

The new website, www.acys.info, is organised into nearly 50 topics, such as mental health; care and protection; crime and justice; drugs and alcohol; and participation and social inclusion. Each topic includes news, research and reports, sector contacts, publications and relevant programs.

Existing services at www.acys.info, including information on youth sector and community organisations; government agencies and programs; events; education and training courses in youth work; publications and research; youth issues and disciplines; databases; and book reviews, will all be available on the new website.
