An Intranet needs to provide accurate, timely, and relevant content - building on existing organisational information rather than reinventing the wheel. The launch of our Intranet in early 2010 was the culmination of a five year dream, interrupted by a few of challenges, including our Head Office burning to the ground. Other challenges and successes included convincing senior management to invest in web systems, user engagement in the process and integrating with our new DMZ, Human Resources database, Active Directory and Google Mini.

The Web is one of the primary tools used by Marketing Managers and Communications Managers to meaningfully engage with people in their markets. These can be as diverse as constituencies, partners, customers, or shareholders. How do Online Marketing teams get to know the real people that come to their sites? How do they then provide the right online content or service? How do they bring the right visitors to their sites and then provide a compelling and satisfying experience? And how do their organisations deal with the shift of Web ownership, away from the IT department, to the Marketing team? In short, this session deals with how Online Marketing teams find out what people want, and how they give it to them.

DISPLAYING SEMANTICALLY RELATED CONTENT WITH MYSOURCE MATRIX
If you would like to guide your users to other content on your site that relates to any of the content that they are currently viewing, what you want is semantically related content. A few good examples of semantically related content are; upcoming dates, PDF/Word docs, FAQs, Glossary terms or related pages. However, the best way to manage this is not just with regular asset listings, you’ll need; a controlled vocabulary, metadata, a taxonomy, some way of expressing the relationships and some nouse to pull it all together.

M2 Telecom selected MySource Matrix after an extensive evaluation of a plethora of Content Management Systems (CMS). One of the main drivers was the requirement for the CMS to support multiple brands that all sells similar telecommunications products and services, with online “assets” being managed in one place. Telecom is also a heavily regulated business, so content control via flexible workflow for content approval was an important consideration.
Kim will talk about the experience gained in implementing multiple sites on MySource Matrix, including the challenges in getting content “owners” to use the system with minimised support from M2 IT department or Squiz staff. The presentation will also cover how M2 plans to use MySource Matrix for its intranet, extranet and most importantly for further integration with its new customer service platform.
Speaker Bio:

Kim has extensive and varied experience in IT and Telecommunications in a career spanning 30+ years. Born in Norway, Kim has spent the last 20 years in Australia, working in IT retail during the nineties, and then joining the “dot com boom” via OzEmail in 1999, which then led to roles with UUNET, which was part of the ill-fated WorldCom, one of the more spectacular dot com busts. Dare we let non-technical staff get their hands on our website? Distributed content authorship (DCA) enables an organisation to manage a high content website with a minimal website management team, but it can also potentially reduce a site’s cohesive look and feel and the quality of the content contained within. With only a very small ICT team and no experienced webmaster, the Selwyn District Council has chosen the path of DCA. Explore this case study of the implementation of our DCA, and the different solutions we’ve created to some initial problems to result in a largely self-managing website with minimal ICT involvement./p>

COLLABORATION; FROM MISSION IMPOSSIBLE TO MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Two years down the track since we implemented MySource Matrix at the Dunedin City Council as the Council’s website content management system, we have learned that collaboration is one word that is easy to say or use and not so easy to apply.
Working together with other people means compromise, sharing knowledge and taking risks, and not many of us like it. This is where MySourceMatrix comes in.
In this session, we will look at how MySourceMatrix plays its role at the Dunedin City Council as a platform that brings people and technology together to deliver and meet its customer needs. There will be examples of work we’ve done by partnering Matrix with non-Matrix elements. We will also highlight the obstacles in introducing OpenSource technology to the Non-OpenSource shop and how we deal with issues that arise.
Speaker Bio:

As the Webmaster at the Dunedin City Council (DCC), Sean oversees the daily operation and management of the Council’s main website, its sub-sites as well as the corporate intranet.

Sean has a background in multimedia communication design, hospitality and customer services which makes the DCC the ideal place to apply his ideas and knowledge around web publishing and online services on full throttle. His favourite pass time includes watching hours of pre-recorded Big Bang Theory, NCIS and Bones and top on the list; travelling. His goal is one new country a year until he’s 50.
Everyone collaborates, the best technology wins. Not just within one company, but among an Internet-connected, worldwide community. New ideas and code travel the world in an instant.
As a result, the open source model often builds higher quality, more secure, more easily integrated software. And it does it at a vastly accelerated pace and often at a lower cost.
Red Hat and Squiz are working together to help enterprises gain full advantage of the capability and efficiency of open source. Red Hat Enterprise Linux and MySource Matrix are built in collaboration with a rapidly growing worldwide community.

Stamford Interactive
Session Outline:
WEB 2.0 IS THE ANSWER, BUT ARE WE ASKING YOU THE RIGHT QUESTIONS?
The "read-only web” is so old school. With Web 2.0 users interact with one another and contribute content, and now Web 3.0 promises the potential for web applications that speak directly to each other. But what is the point of any of this if it’s not what users actually want or need??
Using case studies and examples of both world leading social networking solutions and some that perhaps shouldn’t have got further than the drawing board, we will explore the context of use for these new and not so new tools. See how the user experience is everything, whatever the technology, from service delivery to citizen engagement, knowledge management or innovative thinking and design.
