New Graduates

Squiz welcomes applications from students and new graduates and has a strong track record in helping them start their career in IT.  For current students, we are happy consider you for an industrial year placement, and students often go on to join us full-time when their studies are complete.  In addition, many of our staff are currently undertaking part-time study. 

There are a several positions which are suited to people with minimal IT experience.  Depending on our workload and ability to mentor you, there may be positions available in the following areas:

Development and Programming

MySource is a large and sophisticated OO application written in PHP (yes that's unusual) and our programmers need good coding and software design skills.

Our programmers have a natural flair for programming; a good understanding of web technologies, database and SQL query design skills, knowledge of additional languages (eg. C++, PERL) and an ability to think outside the square when problem solving. We work with MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MSSQL and DB2 databases, we also work on a wide range of operating systems, including Linux, Solaris, Windows and OSX.

Front End Development

This is all about web. If you’re great with HTML, CSS and JavaScript this is your role.

Squiz Front End Developers (AKA Implementation Specialists) are a dynamic group of people who have knowledge of web standards, CSS and HTML. In addition to these technical skills our team members need to have attention to detail, a strong client focus, and great communication skills.

System Administration

To apply for this role you need to be passionate about Linux and enjoy keeping up with the latest developments.

Squiz offers server architecture, hosting and server administration support to clients. System Administrators have experience with installing and maintaining POSIX servers (primarily Linux); the maintenance of associated applications (e.g. Apache, PHP, MySQL, PostgreSQL & Qmail).

They also demonstrate a good understanding of server security issues and web relevant protocols; they can program confidently using more than one language (eg PERL or Bash scripting), have experience with database management and with high availability systems, great communication skills, and generally are so passionate about server administration that they run a small server farm at home.

Support

Squiz's Support Division is dedicated to helping our existing clients and is based in Hobart.  Working in the Support Diviision is a multi-dimensional role suitable for someone who can multi-task, loves talking to people about technology, and who can trouble-shoot and solve problems.

The support team performs Web Content Management, Software configuration, Client Consultation, Quality Assurance, and System Troubleshooting. Team members generally have skills in the areas of Website design, Programming and Database support for web applications (PHP, MySQL), and System administration skills (primarily Linux).
